S12UPS-3.0/12DC Ibex Manufacturing, Inc.

12VDC Input/Output UPS
with 5Ah 12V SLA Battery.
-40C to +60C Operation.

Input Voltage Range
Ambient Temperature
Maximum Output Current
Battery Cutoff Voltage
5VDC to 32VDC
-40C to +60C (Note 1)
3.0A
10.8V (Note 2)

Note 1: This temperature range is set by battery requirements. Other than the battery, the UPS operates properly at temperatures up to +85C. The charger turns off above +65C but automatically restarts when the temperature goes below +65C.

Note 2: When the unit's input supply voltage drops below 10.8V, the battery supplies the unit's output current. To protect the battery during discharge, the unit shuts down when the battery reaches approximately 10.8V. During the shutdown, the battery is also disconnected for the unit's internal circuitry.

Charger Characteristics:

The following graph shows the typical charger output current at a 13.7V charger output voltage versus the unit's input voltage.

The graph shows that, when the input voltage is between 5V and 10.8V, the charger still supplies current to the battery. This reduces the drain on the battery (which now supplies the unit's output current).

If the unit's output current load is less than what the charger can supply, the battery never discharges.

If the load is greater than this, the battery makes up the difference - but still discharges more slowly than without the charger's contribution.

Below 5V input, the charger shuts down and the battery supplies all of the unit's output current.

If the unit's input voltage is above 10.8V, then the input voltage supplies all of the unit's output current. All of the charger's output then goes to recharge/maintain the battery (as needed).

Battery Life in Standby Service: The following graph shows the expected 4 to 5 year life of a battery that is never subjected discharge/charge cycles.

Battery Float Life

Battery Life in Cyclic Service: The following graph shows the reduced battery life when subjected to discharge/charge cycles.

Battery Cyclic Life

Battery Shelf Life: When storing the UPS, the mating connector is normally disconnected. The causes the unit to disconnect the battery from the internal circuitry. The battery then slowly discharges only from its own leakage current.
